Nicknamed the Soul King, Brook is the towering skeletal musician aboard the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the crew's two swordsmen. Death claimed him decades ago, yet the Yomi Yomi no Mi returned his soul to a body that had already decayed to bone, leaving behind an undying entertainer chasing a promise made to an old whale friend.

Appearance

While still living, Brook was a tall, tan, lean man with a striking face who once led the Royal Battle Convoy of Esperia Kingdom while wearing a guard's coat, frilled shirt, cravat, and thigh-high boots. A scar across his forehead, faintly shaped like an omega, survived even into his skeletal state as a crack along his skull. After his resurrection he became an immensely tall skeleton in formal dress, topped by a hat and carrying a cane, his afro held in place by what he insists are very strong roots. Standing 266 cm before the timeskip and 277 cm afterward, he ranks as the second-tallest Straw Hat. Following the timeskip he adopted flashier rock-star clothing, including heart-shaped shades, a feather boa, and a crowned top hat, and his wardrobe shifted again with nearly every island the crew visited.

Personality

Brook carries himself with the polish of a gentleman, a manner reflected in his refined attire, while his flamboyant post-timeskip wardrobe plays up his showman identity as the Soul King. Above all he is driven by a single long-held vow: to return one day to Reverse Mountain and reunite with Laboon, the whale who waits there with Crocus, the friend he promised to meet again at the Twin Cape.

Abilities

Brook serves the crew as its musician and as one of its two swordsmen, fighting with the slender blade concealed inside his cane. The Yomi Yomi no Mi granted him a single return from death, and the long delay before his soul located his body left that body reduced to a skeleton with only the afro intact. Over time he learned to draw far deeper on the fruit, gaining considerable command over his own soul as well as the souls of others. His bounty stood at 33,000,000 during his Rumbar Pirates days, climbed to 83,000,000 after Dressrosa, and reached 383,000,000 following the raid on Onigashima.
