Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix

Marco is the one who ate this fruit, a Mythical Zoan whose gift is threefold: shifting into a firebird, taking a half-phoenix hybrid shape, and, most famously, mending flesh with blue phoenix fire that can be turned on himself or on others. In naming, tori is Japanese for bird, while the model reads fushicho, a term meaning immortal bird that Japan applies to the western phoenix. Historically the fruit matters twice over, since it revealed the very idea of Mythical Zoans to readers and was only the second such fruit given an official name.

Its shape recalls a pineapple. Green rounded segments make up an oval body, each bearing the trademark swirl and ending in a spiky tip, and in place of the usual stalk sit stiff blade-like leaves that jut upward and mimic the blue-and-yellow fire it grants. In full firebird mode Marco resembles a flame-wrapped peafowl, complete with eyespot plumage, a thin neck, a burning head crest, and long looping tail feathers.

As with every Zoan, changing shape strengthens the body, and in Marco's hands that meant holding two transformed Ancient Zoan All-Stars in place simultaneously. Being a bird type, it also delivers flight across both the hybrid and beast states, plus talons that can rake a target. The fruit's mythical bonus is the Blue Flames of Resurrection, which automatically sheathe the user on transforming but can be conjured in lesser doses without any change of form. Unlike ordinary fire, these flames give off no heat and do not spread, yet their special quality lets them repel even a living-fire homie such as Big Mom's Prometheus.

Instead of burning, the fire heals, sealing even lethal injuries so quickly that being shot, run through, or losing a wing draws barely a flinch. Under full phoenix mode, blows lacking Haki slip through the body like it were pure flame, which looks like Logia intangibility on the surface; the distinction is that a solid body stays intact beneath while damage regenerates. Cast over someone else, the flames hasten recovery, repair broken limbs, and can even stall an illness, as when Marco checked Queen's Ice Oni virus, though the effect on others is markedly weaker and slower than on himself.

None of this makes the user genuinely deathless. The healing caps out, and Haki-laced strikes leave wounds that stick past the fire, which is why Garp once batted a mid-flight Marco out of the air. Regeneration slows when he is startled or not transformed, extended use bleeds his stamina, and he stays exposed to being pinned down or shut off by Seastone.

The only wielder is Marco, whose renown as Marco the Phoenix rests on this power, which he applies to aerial fighting and a flexible blend of attack, guard, and support. He darts through the sky at speed, drives Haki-infused kicks and knee strikes with human legs, tears at foes with phoenix talons, and traps even fully changed Ancient Zoans like King and Queen inside his wings. Ignoring most incoming blows through constant regeneration, he shields comrades with his own frame then patches himself up afterward, and for years he was the Whitebeard Pirates' ship doctor before tending the residents of Sphinx.

His named moves display the range. Fujiazami twists his wings into a protective vortex sturdy enough to halt Kizaru's light barrage and Kaidou's Bolo Breath; Hoo-in fires off a two-legged kick that erupts into a burning shockwave; Nashi no Tsubute broadcasts healing fire over a whole crowd, the technique deployed during the Ice Oni crisis. Bluebird hurls a swirling, compact firebird as a concussive blow, and Ongle is a one-legged talon kick that split open Queen's face. By fifteen, thirty years before the present day, he had already mastered the transformation.
