Overview

Sometimes labeled the Carbonic Acid King story, this is the fourteenth filler entry and the fifth to follow the time skip, serving as a lead-in to the movie One Piece: Stampede. The plot begins when the Thousand Sunny runs low on cola, prompting Luffy to seek a resupply on a nearby island. There he crosses paths with Boa Hancock, and the two join forces against Cidre and his guild, a band of bounty hunters who fight using pressurized blasts of soda water.

Summary

The organizer Buena Festa informed the hunter Cidre that his upcoming Pirates Festival would be headlined by Douglas Bullet, and Cidre relished the chance to bring him down there. Festa mentioned that Luffy had been invited too, only to learn that Cidre's guild was already pursuing the Straw Hats. At sea, the crew came under fire from the guild's carbonation guns and escaped with a Coup de Burst, but landed on an island only to find their cola tank empty. Luffy set off to buy more and met a ramune seller named Caramel, who warned that the factory was under the guild's thumb. Rushing toward it, Luffy was overpowered by a squad under Ginger and swept into an underground river.

The current carried him to Boa Hancock, and after their reunion the two were hunted by Ginger's men, with the Kuja sisters and Elder Nyon lending aid. Ginger's carbon gas forced Hancock and Luffy to flee together toward the factory, where Hancock revealed she was bound for the lawless Pirates Festival. Cidre confronted them personally and refused Luffy's plea for cola, sending his subordinate Guarana to fight Hancock while he faced Luffy. Even after boosting his strikes with carbonation, Cidre was overwhelmed and retreated to upgrade his gear. On the coast, the rest of the crew fought the guild until its members revealed they were enslaved and abandoned the fight. Luffy broke into the factory, and Hancock petrified Guarana and Ginger, while Cidre donned a stronger rig. His attacks could not harm Luffy's rubber body, and Luffy activated Gear Third and ended the bout with a Gomu Gomu no Elephant Gun. As the festival invitation slipped from the beaten hunter, Luffy claimed it.

Aftermath

The freed guild slaves rewarded the Straw Hats with barrels of cola, and the crew set course for Delta Island and the Pirates Festival, a gathering advertised as offering the chance to seek out the late Pirate King's fortune. Buena Festa laughed off Cidre's loss as he and Douglas Bullet looked ahead to the festivities. Running just two episodes, this arc ties another entry for the shortest filler in the anime, and it is one of the few that aired during an ongoing storyline rather than between two arcs. Because of this placement, it cannot be neatly slotted anywhere in the main timeline.
