Appearance

Rising far above those near her, Aphelandra is at once enormously tall and quite slim, with a face that reads as childlike thanks to her wide, dark brown eyes. Long orange-brown hair drops evenly to a point below the shoulders. As Kuja custom dictates, she dresses in scant gear: a button-studded blue corset trimmed in yellow, a matching lower piece, a flowing cape of white, and a plumed morion helmet fitted with cheek guards that displays the tribe's crest at the front. Brown outdoor boots cover her feet. Rather than slinging a blade at the hip the way most swordfighters do, she keeps her weapon sheathed across the small of her back.

Personality

For all her physical bulk, Aphelandra comes across as shy and meek, frequently echoing back whatever is said to her as she follows instructions. Kind and naive at heart, she once apologized to Luffy over having to fight him simply because he was a man. Given an order, she snaps upright and answers with a crisp right-handed salute, a habit that lends her a soldierly air.

History

Aphelandra fights up close, and her sheer scale hands her a major edge over opponents; in battle she swings a large jian rather than the snake bow favored by many Kuja. Her size once worked against Luffy, who struck and bounced off her chest while breaking out of confinement. After her friend Marguerite found the mushroom-covered Luffy, Aphelandra helped carry him to the village, then later barred his path when he tried to flee and chased him into the forest once he grabbed Marguerite.

When Hancock moved to execute Luffy, Aphelandra and Sweet Pea joined Marguerite in claiming responsibility for sparing him, and all three were turned to stone in punishment before Luffy shifted them clear of danger and they were eventually restored. She bid him goodbye as he set off to rescue his brother. Across the timeskip she grew strong enough to ride with the Kuja Pirates, since only the most capable warriors sail aboard their ship. Much later, after the Warlord system fell, Amazon Lily came under assault by the Marines and the Blackbeard Pirates; Blackbeard seized Hancock and canceled her powers, but Silvers Rayleigh arrived and drove the invaders away.
