Appearance

Personality

His courage and his long record of victories over pirates have earned him the regard of both subordinates and peers. Yet behind that tough shell lies a tender streak, most of all a powerful crush on Chopper sparked by the reindeer's adorable looks. The feeling runs so deep that when his fellow Marines located the Thousand Sunny and opened fire, he grew tense and frantic, terrified the shots might wound Chopper.

History

He holds the rank of Marine Captain and is known by the nickname Benevolent King of the Waves, posted to the GR 66 facility on Sabaody Archipelago. He entered Marine service at the rank of Seaman Recruit and climbed to Captain on the strength of repeated military successes. Two years before the present day, he was at Enies Lobby during the Straw Hats' assault, and that is where Chopper's cuteness first captivated him. At the Marineford summit war he caught, with his bare hands alone, an ice block large enough to smash a warship, sparing two Marines beneath it.

Later, Rear Admiral Catacombo ordered him to seize the Straw Hats while they passed through Sabaody. Sailing aboard the Rear Admiral's vessel, he finally spotted the crew and joined the bombardment, all the while panicking that Chopper might be hurt. When the Kuja Pirates arrived and placed themselves between the two sides, the Marines were stopped, and he felt only relief that the pirates slipped away. After Doflamingo's defeat, the sight of Chopper's new bounty poster made him faint at its adorableness. In One Piece Fan Letter his rank is lowered to Lieutenant Commander, and rather than a standard warship his orders involve a secret weapon loaded with a new toxic fluid meant to dissolve the Thousand Sunny's coating.
