Chabo

As a child Chabo is short, his round eyes peeking out from under a green beanie, his brown hair tucked beneath it while he sports an orange jacket. The years after the timeskip stretch him taller and let his hair grow out. He swaps the beanie for a cap bearing the kanji ima, meaning now, and pulls on a plaid shirt under an apron reading Bell Mère's, decorated with Nami's tattoo mark and the word for mikan. Pale gloves, cargo pants, and a bandage wrapped around his left arm complete the older look.

The murder of his father left Chabo desperate to strike back, and he set out to kill the fish-man responsible himself. That fury masked a deeper wound. He had no healthy way to grieve such a sudden loss, which is why he lashed out, even mistaking Usopp for his enemy. Nojiko reached him by pointing out that people still cared whether he lived, making him see that hurling his life away changed nothing. By the timeskip he carries himself with contentment, settled into farm work.

When the Arlong Pirates and Momoo destroyed Gosa Village, Arlong took Chabo's father, planting the boy's thirst for vengeance. He marched on Arlong Park to act on it, but Nami intercepted him at the gate, struck him down, and left him a pile of money to send him away. Wandering the ruins of his village, he tripped Usopp, mistaking the long-nosed sniper for a fish-man, and was stopped by Nojiko before he could stab him. She brought him home, pressed him about the attack, and sent him back to his mother. After the Marines failed against Arlong and Luffy ultimately toppled the pirate, Chabo let his grudge go and celebrated alongside Cocoyasi Village. In the years that followed he joined Nojiko's mikan trade, visiting Bell-mère's grave with her and Genzo, and later listened to Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast with the rest of the village.
