Nojiko

Nojiko is a young woman of average build whose light blue hair and matching eyes stand out against her tanned skin. Heavy tattooing runs across her right arm and chest, ink she chose out of solidarity with Nami, who was tormented by the Arlong mark branded on her own body. Her everyday look tends toward a beige sleeveless shirt, sometimes swapped for a yellow-striped green button-up, worn with blue trousers, purple sandals, and a touch of pink lip gloss. After the two-year gap her hair grew out, she took to lipstick, and her figure, like her sister's, filled into a more pronounced hourglass shape.

Calm and clear-headed, Nojiko throws her full backing behind whatever Nami sets out to do and treats Genzo, a father figure to both girls, with open generosity. As a child she mostly avoided the trouble her sister courted, though she had a knack for irritating local boys, and even Bell-mere conceded the girl was more level-headed than herself. Maturity brought responsibility, and during Arlong's reign she worked to keep the villagers from rebelling while Nami labored to honor her bargain. She holds little patience for anyone who would throw their life away carelessly, believing that anyone determined to keep living, adult or child, can manage it if they truly try.

Born somewhere in the East Blue, Nojiko was two when nearly everyone around her perished in a clash between pirates and Marines in the Oykot Kingdom. Wandering the aftermath, she found a surviving infant, the future Nami, and crossed paths with the wounded Bell-mere, who took both children home to Cocoyasi Village and, to the villagers' surprise, adopted them. Their life together was poor but loving, until Arlong invaded the island and demanded a survival fee. With only enough money to spare herself or her daughters, Bell-mere gave it to the girls and was shot dead before their eyes, leaving Nojiko to inherit her mother's mikan farm.

When the Straw Hats reached the island during the Arlong Park Arc, Nojiko stopped Chabo from attacking Usopp, knocked Usopp out to keep him from a hopeless fight, and laid out Nami's hidden past and her pact with the Arlong Pirates. She later revealed that history to the whole crew in exchange for a promise that they leave. Shot in the back by the corrupt Marine Nezumi while shielding Nami, she survived, then rallied the villagers to revolt. During the battle she and Genzo dove in to keep a sunken, immobilized Luffy from drowning, stretching his head above the water and reviving him with CPR. After Arlong fell, she helped push Nezumi out of town so the villagers could keep their money, and watched the crew sail for the Grand Line while Nami quietly left the treasure in her house.

In the years afterward Nojiko stayed rooted in Cocoyasi Village, delivering mikans and following Nami's growing fame. She and Chabo took up aprons bearing Nami's tattoo and mikans, hinting at a shared business, and she traded amused looks with Genzo over each new bounty poster. During the Egghead Arc she slipped away partway through Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast, telling Genzo she needed to check on her mikan groves.
