Charlotte Katakuri

Towering past five meters, Katakuri dwarfs Luffy nearly threefold and edges out even his enormous triplet brothers Daifuku and Oven. Spiky crimson hair sits above a face scarred symmetrically on both cheeks, his long legs split evenly between thigh and shin. Beneath the ragged feather scarf he keeps wound over his mouth hide sharp, pelican-eel teeth and a jaw that can stretch to a monstrous size.

His torn leather vest, stamped CHARLOTTE across the back, leaves a heavily muscled torso bare, the abs inked with pink tattoos. He rounds out the look with dark gloves and pants, a skull-buckled belt, spurred boots, spiked bracelets, and single-spiked knee pads. As a boy he wore a plain torn jacket and went without the scarf, only adopting it after his sister was harmed.

Calm, exacting, and tireless, Katakuri pours himself into shielding his family and crew and finishing whatever task he is set. He leans constantly on his Observation Haki to spot trouble early and steer events away from the futures he glimpses, wasting no motion and striking with brutal efficiency to neutralize foes fast. A clear mind is essential to that foresight, so he stays composed in the worst moments, paling or shouting at a grim vision but never panicking. He sizes up opponents bluntly, neither boasting nor shrinking, and freely praises those who impress him.

Underneath the perfect image his siblings worship lies a man with secrets. He guards a private snack ritual, his beloved merienda, where he reclines on his back and gorges on doughnuts and tea in blissful, intimate language, the very posture he claims in public to never adopt. His sensitivity about his eel-like mouth runs deep: bullied for it as a child, he hid it behind a scarf only after the bullies retaliated by cutting his sister Brulee. Above all he is an honorable duelist who despises outside interference. When his sister Flampe shot Luffy during their bout, he stabbed himself with his own trident to match the wound and even his footing, then peeled away his scarf to face Luffy as a true equal.

Born on a boat along the Grand Line as the eldest of triplets, Katakuri tasted doughnuts at two and ate them so greedily that by three his cheeks tore, leaving permanent scars and drawing cruel mockery. Strong enough to scatter his tormentors, he swallowed the Mochi Mochi no Mi at five. When bullies took revenge by slashing Brulee's face, he resolved to become a feared, cold figure who could protect his siblings, masking his mouth from then on. He went undefeated for his entire life, his record called legendary, and rose to the rank of Sweet Commander.

At Pudding and Sanji's wedding he gunned down the vengeful Jigra before he could strike, foresaw Pudding weeping at the altar, and tried in vain to kill Sanji with a flicked jellybean. When Luffy and his mirror duplicates erupted from the cake, Katakuri pinned him, though Luffy still managed to show Big Mom the broken Carmel portrait. As the assassination collapsed he fashioned mochi earplugs for his siblings, plugged Bege's fortress cannons, and swiftly downed Vinsmoke Ichiji. After the chateau toppled and Streusen's cake saved them, Katakuri organized pursuit and resolved to behead Luffy before the rookie could grow more dangerous.

Suspecting the Straw Hats might still slip away, he lay in ambush aboard the Thousand Sunny, then dragged Luffy into the Mirro-World for a marathon duel. Pairing his Devil Fruit with Future Vision, mochi tendrils hardened by Armament Haki, and his trident Mogura, he overpowered Luffy through Gear 3 and Gear 4, even revealing his awakening to turn the surrounding mirror world into mochi. The fight bled into his merienda time, and when Luffy caught him gorging on doughnuts, his fury and shame spiked. Over hours Luffy began catching up, gradually unlocking his own glimpse of the future, until a clean clash dropped both giants. Rising briefly, Katakuri asked whether Luffy meant to return and topple Big Mom; pleased by the answer, he collapsed, accepting his first defeat with respect. Brulee later tended his wounds, and he smirked on learning the Straw Hats had escaped.

He resurfaced during the Germa 66 cover story, where Caesar's gas made him and Oven hallucinate and turn on each other, and in the non-canon Film: Red he joined the Red Hair Pirates and Marines against Tot Musica to rescue his siblings. Long after, he watched Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast with the rest of his family.
