Appearance

Crocus takes his look from the flower he is named for, with petal-like growths fanning around his head. Stocky and powerfully built, he is bald on top yet keeps white hair tipped in yellow and purple petals, along with a beard that forks into two points and a lower lip noticeably fuller than the upper. His everyday outfit runs to a pink striped shirt, grayish-blue shorts, sandals, glasses, a seaweed necklace, and an assortment of bracelets, and a scar marks his left arm. In his Roger Pirates days his hair and beard were still black and he carried harpoons across his back.

Personality

Wise and warmhearted, Crocus has an odd habit of taking his sweet time before answering a question, often glaring dramatically before delivering some thoroughly anticlimactic remark. He treasures friendship above almost anything, having joined Roger's crew chiefly to hunt for the Rumbar Pirates so Laboon could one day reunite with them, and he once shielded the whale by taking a cannon blast head-on. As a physician he is firm, scolding Roger for drinking despite his terminal illness and barring a feverish Buggy from the final voyage to Laugh Tale.

History

Roughly fifty years before the present, Crocus met the Rumbar Pirates as they came down Reverse Mountain with the young whale Laboon in tow. He hosted them during repairs and grew close to the crew, and when they sailed on they entrusted Laboon to his care, promising to circle the sea and return. They never did. Years later the Roger Pirates, hearing of his skill, begged him to join them, since their captain Gol D. Roger was dying of an incurable disease. Seeing a chance to trace the Rumbar Pirates, Crocus signed on as ship doctor and managed to stabilize Roger's condition long enough for the crew to reach Laugh Tale. According to Rayleigh he was the only doctor capable of even halting Roger's illness, and he proved an exceptional surgeon and pharmacist, later installing tunnels inside Laboon's body to treat the enormous whale. After the crew disbanded, Crocus returned to Twin Cape. Decades on, he met the Straw Hat Pirates when Laboon swallowed their ship, helped them out, recounted the whale's story, and gave Luffy his personal Log Pose. He continued watching over Laboon through the years that followed, including listening to Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast in the final saga.
