Appearance

Striped streaks of orange and red run from Diamante's forehead, down through his eyes, and reach his chin, beneath a light-colored hat from which locks of brown hair spill out. He is exceptionally tall and lean, towering even over his ten-foot captain, with a muscular upper body, a slight hunch, and remarkably long legs that jut up beside his face whenever he sits. The anime gives him blue eyes, and colorings vary, a pink-and-purple ensemble with a crimson steel cape in the digital manga versus brighter reds on screen. As a child he clung to a worn pirate hat, an oversized robe, and a tattered tank top, and during the Dressrosa takeover a decade prior his facial streaks had not yet appeared.

Personality

Diamante has a strange quirk with praise: he rejects every compliment until the speaker gives up, then decides the flattery must have been sincere and finally accepts it. He guards his title of Hero of the Colosseum jealously, boasting of having outshone Kyros. Cruelty runs through him, whether mocking a beaten Bellamy, grinning as the Riku castle burned, or laughing in Viola's face about killing her sister and taunting Rebecca over her mother's death. Yet he fiercely protects his crewmates, whom he regards as family, glaring down a grunt who dared snicker at Pica's voice.

He shows flashes of odd principle, insisting Rebecca be honored as a block winner and lecturing others about honesty with money, even as he readily resorts to dirty tactics, shooting Kyros in the leg or targeting Rebecca to create an opening. Long-tied to Doflamingo since boyhood, he and the other elite officers serve their captain with absolute devotion, willing to torch an entire town over a stretch of bad pavement that made their leader stumble. Like so many in the world, he carries a signature laugh: 'Uhahahaha.'

Abilities

As one of the three top officers of the Donquixote Pirates, Diamante leads his own subdivision, the Diamante Army, commanding fighters such as Lao G, Senor Pink, Machvise, and Dellinger. Doflamingo trusted him enough to face every block champion of the tournament alone. Even at fourteen he helped raze a town alongside Trebol, Pica, and Vergo, and at thirty-five he and two officers crushed Dressrosa's entire army. His raw strength lets him fling compressed-air slashes that gouge deep fissures across great distances, and he wields both Armament and Observation Haki, though a vulnerable spot on his forehead keeps him hiding it beneath his hat.

His power comes from the Hira Hira no Mi, a Paramecia fruit that lets him grant cloth-like properties to his own body and to any lifeless object he touches. Affected materials turn flat, flexible, and foldable while keeping their original hardness and edge, so a steel cape can flutter like a banner yet still snap a cutlass, and a rapier can bend into unexpected angles or fold away out of sight. He fights with that iron cape, a flintlock pistol, a rapier, and a hidden club, supplemented by confetti blasters that scatter spiked iron balls. A gifted swordsman who once trained a young Trafalgar Law, he matched the undefeated Kyros blow for blow.

Diamante's history is bound to Doflamingo's rise from the North Blue island of Downs through the Donquixote Pirates' spread across the Grand Line, including his role in framing the Riku Family and seizing Dressrosa, where he gunned down Scarlett. At the Corrida Colosseum he clashed with Sabo and Rebecca, then pursued Rebecca across the flower fields, only for Kyros to intervene. Their long duel ended with Kyros shattering both Diamante's sword and his body, and after Doflamingo fell, Diamante was arrested and bound in Seastone by the Marines.
