Hattori is the pet pigeon kept by Rob Lucci, instantly recognizable for perching on his master's shoulder. During Lucci's undercover years he served as the dummy for an elaborate ventriloquism act.
Hattori is a white pigeon who is rarely seen without a necktie, light red during Lucci's stint posing as a shipwright and black once that cover was dropped. For the journey to Enies Lobby he even donned a light green coat that mirrored the one his master wore.
Following the timeskip his wardrobe shifted to a white coat and hat echoing Lucci's new look, finished with a white tie of his own.
Why a bird stays so devotedly beside a man as ruthless as Lucci is never fully explained, though the two have been together since Lucci's childhood. Far from fearing his master, Hattori sticks close even through dangers like the Buster Call, and he once tried to bandage Lucci after the brutal clash with Luffy, plainly overjoyed when the man finally woke in a St. Poplar hospital.
He shows striking intelligence for a pigeon. While Lucci hid behind a stoic mask in Water 7, Hattori supplied the social warmth, syncing his beak to his master's words and gesturing with his wings like a pair of arms. Even after the ruse ended he kept slipping into human habits, such as sipping from a cup. In a fight he simply circles overhead like a bird of prey until the violence is over.
Throughout Water 7, Hattori anchored Lucci's ventriloquism routine, matching the man's speech and gestures so precisely that Lucci barely had to move. He traveled to Enies Lobby in his coat and stayed at Lucci's side until the fight with Luffy, returning afterward to land on his beaten master's back.
When CP9 fled the Buster Call and worked odd jobs in St. Poplar to cover Lucci's medical bills, Hattori trailed them about town and was at the window the moment Lucci awoke. He remained through the group's later clashes and, during the timeskip, helped uncover an Underworld plot that earned the agents reinstatement into CP0. He then accompanied Lucci to Dressrosa, Mary Geoise, and Wano.
In the Egghead arc he flew with Lucci, Kaku, and Stussy to the island, squawking furiously when Stussy struck Lucci down and again returning to him after Zoro left him gravely wounded. Once the Straw Hats escaped, Hattori withdrew to the Marine fleet alongside Lucci and Kaku.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
