Hidayu

Tan-skinned and thickset, Hidayu keeps his navy hair shaved close, with a faint widow's peak above bushy brows. His mustache and goatee flare out in a way that recalls kabuki kumadori paint. A brown kimono dotted with orange circles forms his usual dress, and he sometimes drapes a white head scarf or a pale, zig-zag-sleeved cloak over it. A reverse crescent moon is inked onto his ankle.

Devotion to the Kouzuki cause runs deep in him, and he usually holds a stern, unmoving expression. He doubted at first that the Kouzuki had truly come back to topple Orochi, yet his faith hardened during his imprisonment. That stoic mask cracked twice: he beamed and cheered when Denjiro released him to join the assault, then clenched his teeth with worry when Big Mom struck at his allies.

Long ago Hidayu pledged himself to the Kouzuki Family. After Kouzuki Toki's prophecy foretold Orochi's fall and Wano's borders opening, he and fellow loyalists endured a twenty-year wait for the Scabbards, marking their ankles with crescent tattoos as a sign of their bond. While carrying a log through the Flower Capital, he was slipped a coded message and puzzled over whether to believe it. He was among those arrested and confined in Rasetsu Town for plotting against Orochi, where he received Shimotsuki Yasuie's final word on the rebels' new meeting point. On the day of the Fire Festival, Denjiro freed him and the others, swelling the raid's ranks by a thousand fighters who sailed to Tokage Port to gather the Scabbards. Hidayu traveled with the alliance to Onigashima, joined Kin'emon's Eastern unit, hid from Big Mom near the brothel, and recoiled in shock when she blasted a hole through the Skull Dome.
