Hototogisu

A young woman of average size, Hototogisu has light-colored hair and, in the manner of many Marines, drapes her high-collared coat loosely over her shoulders rather than wearing it properly. She tops the look with a bucket hat marked by the Marine emblem and pairs a spotted shirt with a slack tie. In earlier days she was seen wearing sunglasses.

Hototogisu holds a deep concern for Marine recruits, enough that she once raised a hand against Vice Admiral Garp over advice she judged harmful. She firmly rejects the notion that any life outranks another, insisting instead that every life carries equal value and deserves respect.

Her rank as Vice Admiral grants her command over Marines beneath her, and since every officer of that rank possesses it, she is able to use Haki. Her weaponry has varied by setting: a sheathed katana she left unused on Swallow Island, a rifle slung across her back on Dressrosa, and a wooden bat she swung at Garp after his cadet orientation.

Thirteen years ago she was among the Marines positioned for Tsuru's ambush of the Donquixote Pirates at Swallow Island, an operation that ultimately never proceeded, and she is presumed to have followed Tsuru to Minion Island to confront Doflamingo. Two years before the present, she helped instruct in a training program led by Garp; when he posed recruits a dilemma about saving an old man or a baby and argued for the baby, she beat him with the bat and berated him for implying the old man should be left behind. During the Dressrosa Arc she accompanied Tsuru and looked on as Luffy's arrest was discussed with Admiral Fujitora, gushing over Mansherry when the princess introduced herself. In the non-canon film One Piece: Stampede she appears at Marine Headquarters listening to Brannew brief everyone on Douglas Bullet and the situation at Delta Island.
