Izaya

Wrinkles cover the face of this aged priestess, who tends to keep her eyes narrowed to a squint. Her pink locks fall in side-tied sections held by blue bands. A pronounced hunch makes her look tiny, though she reaches a surprising height once she straightens up. She leans on a long, bent staff and drapes herself in an ornate orange ceremonial robe over a red garment, with jewelry dangling all around her. Oda's own version gives her a deeper shade of pink hair than the movie does.

A permanent scowl gives Izaya a hard, unflinching air, and she treats the Straw Hat crew sternly. Underneath, however, beats a tender heart. She refused to let her granddaughter Maya throw her life away to seal the cursed blade and fretted constantly over Saga while the sword controlled him, feeling genuine relief when he broke loose. She greets the world with a signature cackle of "Ushashasha."

Years earlier, when raiders struck Asuka Island, Izaya guided the villagers out of harm's way while Saga, Lacos, and the men held off the attackers. During the events of the film, she leads a rite honoring the island's god, then meets Luffy's crew without fear, even finding Chopper adorable. After Zoro, now serving Saga, hunts the village's ancient orbs and the Marines seize them, Izaya tends the wounded and warns the pirates to leave, insisting all lives matter. She recounts the legend of the Red Moon and the cursed Shichiseiken, explains that only Maya's lineage can perform the sealing, and is overjoyed when Luffy returns the orbs so Maya need not sacrifice herself. She accompanies Luffy to the central palace, urging Maya on through the prayer ritual as Saga, swelling to monstrous size, threatens to undo everything. After Zoro defeats Saga and frees him, Izaya comforts Maya and joins the villagers to watch the crew sail off, laughing that it is a pity such kind people are pirates.
