Light hair that falls to her shoulders frames the face of this young girl. A pair of pink horns sit atop her head, the visible sign that she descends from the ancient giant lineage.

Sharing the outlook of the other Walrus School pupils, Johanna rejects fighting and bloodshed. A quiet jealousy surfaces around her classmates, since she has no parents of her own while they do. To cover the hurt she puts on a tough front, and at one point she pushes away the comfort that her teacher Ange tries to offer her.

During the Straw Hats' visit to the school, Colon arrived and squared off against Luffy in a duel. The pupils turned their anger on him, and his cruel reply left Johanna in tears. Once the pirates departed, she sat through Ange's lesson in which the class shared their deepest fears.

Later she and eight classmates were seized as leverage by the Knights of God, who meant to coerce Elbaph's adult giants into a coming war. Put to sleep and drawn along by controlling arrows, the children were marched through the forest, narrowly escaping a blaze that Jinbe smothered. When a classmate begged only for his own life, Johanna scolded him for his selfishness. The captives were knocked out repeatedly by bursts of Supreme King Haki as Imu intervened. As the arrows forced them toward a deadly drop, Ange reached her at last, and the two went over the edge together, saved only by Loki and Luffy waiting below. After standing with the other children against Sommers in the Western Village, Johanna was recaptured once more when Killingham flooded the village.
