Appearance

At twenty-six Toki was a tall woman whose long, pale green hair was tied back save for two strands at the front, much like her daughter Hiyori, whom she closely resembled. A floral ornament strung with pearls decorated the right portion of her head, and she wore a short pink kimono bearing crescent moons along its lower edge in the manner of the Kouzuki crest. An arrow loosed at her while she shielded her children later left a lasting mark on her upper left leg.

Personality

Toki was warm and nurturing, tending to Oden after he frightened off the slavers who had been menacing her. That same openness could make her trusting to a fault, as when she followed human traffickers who claimed they would deliver her to Wano, though she saw through their lie soon enough. She greeted the prospect of reaching Wano with genuine excitement. Once she wed Oden his retainers came to hold her in enormous esteem, and she remained modest throughout, laboring beside the common folk of Kuri without ever flaunting her standing as a daimyo's wife.

History

Toki entered the world roughly 830 years ago, during the Void Century, as a member of the Amatsuki daimyo family, though she knew nothing of her own homeland. After consuming her Devil Fruit, the Paramecia-class Toki Toki no Mi, which let her and others jump forward through time in one direction only, she escaped danger again and again by leaping ahead, covering some eight hundred years before she landed three decades prior to the present day.

There she fell in with Karma's crew, who posed as helpers bound for Wano but proved to be traffickers. They fled at the sight of a swollen, monstrous-looking Oden coming ashore, and Toki nursed his wounds. When Karma returned, Whitebeard struck him down and welcomed Toki and Oden onto his vessel, where the two roamed the New World. Toki married Oden and bore him a son and, two years on, a daughter. After Oden chose to aid Gol D. Roger, the family sailed on the Oro Jackson, until illness forced Toki to part ways and remain in Wano with her children, having made Oden swear to see his voyage through.

Recovered, she lived humbly among the people of Kuri. Not long before Oden's return, a Beasts Pirates raid on the castle left her hurt as she covered Momonosuke. After Oden's failed strike at Orochi and his eventual capture, he passed his swords to Toki to hand down to their children before his execution. When Kaidou and Orochi set the castle ablaze, Toki refused to flee to Zou; instead she sent Momonosuke and four retainers twenty years into the future and placed Hiyori in Kawamatsu's care. Riding for Bakura Town as arrows flew, she halted at the great torii gate and proclaimed her prophecy, only to be shot down moments after finishing it.

Her words promised that, after twenty moonlit years, nine shadows would converge to bring dawn to Wano. The vision lit fierce hope in the Kouzuki faithful and gnawing dread in Orochi, who alone took it seriously and spent two decades trying to prevent it. The prophecy came true when the Red Scabbards finally beheaded Orochi once he lost Kaidou's protection.
