History

His job aboard the ship was to keep Roger and the whole crew fed. Forty-four years before the present he already sailed with the Roger Pirates, taking part in a raid on the Kuja Pirates meant to win Shakuyaku over to the crew; when a vessel carrying Garp drew near, Roger rallied everyone against the Marines. Two years later, after Roger announced they would press on with recruiting Shakuyaku, he asked Marx to bring him food. Word that the captive Shakuyaku had been taken to God Valley sent the crew there, where they fought the Rocks Pirates, Marines, and assorted smaller crews in what became the God Valley Incident; once Rayleigh freed her himself, Roger ordered the rest to cover their escape and seize the island's treasure. Later, after riding the Knock Up Stream, Marx stood among the awestruck crew gazing at Skypiea, and he sat in on a meeting about the final stretch of the Grand Line. When the Roger Pirates broke up, his fate became a mystery. Shanks indirectly references him back in an early Buggy flashback, suspecting Buggy of pilfering the cook's food.
