Naguri

By the time the three boys cross his path, Naguri is elderly, his long grey hair falling unkempt to the shoulders, one tooth gone, and brows so thick they nearly bury his eyes, which surface only when his Haki flares. In younger years his hair ran far darker, his eyes showed plainly, and a red headband sat on his brow. He is almost always under a long brown hat with a slightly frayed brim, orange-tinted black-rimmed sunglasses perched on top. A long dark blue cloak drags behind him on the ground, later revealed to be his old crew's flag, and a beige smoking pipe is forever on hand.

Naguri gives off an air of wisdom and calm, weathering others' taunts without striking back. He deeply admires Gol D. Roger, deeming it an honor to have crossed blades with him and holding no resentment over his loss. Above all he treasures his crew; reuniting with them is his dream, and he tells Ace that the mark of a captain is the crew's approval. As is common in the series, he owns a distinctive laugh, "No-shi-shi-shi-shi-shi," and tacks the word "noshi" onto the close of every sentence.

During his captain days Naguri was capable, but he and the Naguri Pirates were swiftly overwhelmed in a clash with the Roger Pirates. He gave up his own life to spare them, only for Roger to walk away, and the broken crew eventually disbanded. He later made his home in the Gray Terminal, where Sabo knew him as an old man who fashioned odd contraptions from scavenged junk. His weapon is a staff tipped with a hammerhead resembling a maul, which he handles well enough to launch a bear through the air, and he carries Supreme King Haki potent enough to freeze a bear with one look and drive it back into the woods. When Luffy, Ace, and Sabo cannot best that bear, Naguri soothes it at once, then joins them for the fish they had meant as bait; startled that Ace is Roger's son, he vows to keep the secret. He goes on to train all three, having beaten Ace in a duel first, and they help build his ship. After watching the boys take down a giant tiger, he sails off in search of his former crew. He holds the distinction of being the first non-canon figure shown wielding Supreme King Haki, a feat later matched by Douglas Bullet.
