Naguri Pirates

Active during Roger's era, the Naguri Pirates were a band of seafarers captained by Naguri, introduced in flashback in the anime. Their full power was never fully measured, yet at their height they ranked as a genuine rival to the Roger Pirates, an esteem reinforced by Naguri's command of the rare Supreme King Haki. That single detail hints at just how dangerous the crew may once have been.

The crew's defining moment came when they clashed with the Roger Pirates and were beaten with ease. Naguri offered up his own life if Roger would spare the rest of his men, but Roger simply turned and walked off, sparing the entire crew. The encounter took a lasting toll. Over the following years the Naguri Pirates suffered heavy losses, eventually broke apart, and their captain drifted into the Gray Terminal. A dozen years before the present, Naguri finally put back out to sea in the hope of bringing his old companions together again.

Naguri stands as the crew's sole identified figure, an aging tinkerer Sabo described as a man who built strange contraptions. After rescuing the young Luffy, Ace, and Sabo from a huge bear, he took the three boys under his wing to train them and learned along the way that Roger had been Ace's father. The boys repaid him by helping construct a new ship, which carried Naguri off the island on his search for his former crew.
