Pagaya

A Skypiean of ordinary build, Pagaya is nearly bald yet keeps the antenna-like hair strands typical of his people, all of them a dark brown that matches his eyebrows and the unusual rounded beard hiding his mouth. His eyes stay shut at all times, though he sees and speaks without trouble. He dresses in the standard Skypiean robe, his colored a brownish yellow with a paler yellow collar and sleeve ends and a black leaf-shaped motif.

Pagaya apologizes constantly, often for things that are not his fault or not even wrong, and carries himself with deep humility toward everyone he meets. He holds no grudges and extended his help to the Straw Hats even after they were branded criminals for skipping their entry toll.

Skilled enough to operate a waver, a craft said to demand a decade of practice, Pagaya also repairs the machines as an engineer and carries a Flame Bazooka in the Upper Yard, though he never fires it. He met the Straw Hats after they reached Angel Island and encountered his daughter Conis, soon arriving on a waver and letting Luffy and Nami try it out, marveling at how quickly Nami took to it. He hosted them, explained Skypiea's clouds and Dials, and worked alongside Sanji in the kitchen before agreeing to look at Nami's broken waver. When the White Berets accused him of crimes and a brawl broke out, the Straw Hats won easily, after which Pagaya urged them to leave the now heavily wanted pirates' company behind for safety.

Wracked with guilt over sending Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp toward the Upper Yard's deadly trials, Pagaya stayed behind rather than escort them to the port. Gan Fall later rescued both him and Conis from Enel, and Pagaya set about repairing Nami's waver and building a larger one to help the pirates flee, even saving Aisa from sky sharks along the way. Though believed killed when Enel struck him as he tended a wounded guard who had exposed Enel's plan, he resurfaced unharmed, the blast having simply dropped him to the White Sea where survivors found him, and he joined the island's celebration. Years later he is glimpsed drinking pumpkin juice with old friends and, after the timeskip, sharing tea with McKinley at the Pumpkin Cafe.
