Appearance

Tall and built with dark blonde dreadlocks, Rakuyo sports a mustache that tapers into two straight points set on a diagonal. His usual getup runs to a yellow coat trimmed in green, a green vest worn beneath an open shirt, a light green sash, square patterned trousers, and ordinary boots, topped by a yellow and purple bandanna marked with Whitebeard's emblem. His signature is a spiked ball and chain ending in a face. Thirty years before the series began, his mustache was noticeably thinner.

Personality

Rakuyo's devotion to Whitebeard and the crew ran deep, enough that he was ready to throw his own life away trying to pull Ace from execution at Marineford. He also ranks among the crew's more reckless commanders, having charged straight at Kizaru on his own.

Abilities

Heading the 7th division placed Rakuyo in command of the ranks below him, and like every one of Whitebeard's commanders he was formidably strong, each said to carry the might of a hundred men. He walked away apparently unhurt from a direct exchange with Admiral Kizaru despite the latter's devastating light powers, a sign of real power. His chosen weapon is a spiked flail topped with a dog like face, its chain writhing like a serpent; flung at a foe, it delivers both crushing impact and a biting wound. Whether the weapon ate a Devil Fruit or runs on some hidden mechanism is unknown.

Thirty years back, Rakuyo was aboard when the crew first reached Wano Country. After a shipwreck and a brief scuffle, they met Kouzuki Oden, who pressed to join them. Oden was repeatedly refused, but when the crew tried to slip away without him, he chained himself to the Moby Dick's mast and was dragged along, with Izou clinging to him in turn. Whitebeard set the condition that Oden hold the chain for three days, and once he endured it the crew cheered and welcomed him aboard, sailing on with Oden, Toki, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi. Four years later the crew traded blows with the Roger Pirates over three days and nights before the fight turned into an exchange of gifts, after which they parted from Oden's family. At Marineford, Rakuyo joined the rescue effort for Ace, personally fighting Kizaru and sinking his spiked ball through him. He wept as Whitebeard chose to die for his sons, grieved again at Ace's death, and stood with the crew and Crocodile against Akainu to guard Luffy. A year after the war, the Whitebeard remnants lost to the Blackbeard Pirates in the Payback War and went into hiding.
