Appearance

What stands out first about this Longleg fighter is his extreme height, the result of impossibly slender, stilt-like limbs. A thick mustache sweeps upward across a heavily creased brow, his eyes hidden behind dark glasses, and a deep scar marks the left side of his face, an old wound left by Pedro in a clash five years earlier. Perched on his scalp sits a magenta cup of steaming tea on its saucer, which he occasionally sips.

His base wardrobe leans formal and theatrical: a magenta tuxedo over a pink shirt, a yellow bowtie, and egg-shell-shaped trousers rising toward his belly, with a tall wooden cane always in hand. The silhouette is so odd that Zoro once joked he looked like a compass. When his shell shatters, he transforms. As Viscount Hiyoko his skin turns yellow, his arms become wings, and he dons a yellow suit with white trousers. His final shape, Count Niwatori, takes on the form of a giant rooster clad in a pale pink suit.

Personality

Tamago peppers his speech with French flourishes, opening with "bon" and closing with phrases like "soir" or "s'il vous plait," and he layers in constant egg-themed wordplay. He brands the inexperienced "half-boiled" and the truly clueless "raw." Beneath the eccentric manner sits a sharp, diplomatic negotiator: he was willing to grant Fish-Man Island extra time to produce candy and patiently spelled out for the Straw Hats exactly what Big Mom's protection entailed and what failure would cost.

Loyalty defines him. Like nearly everyone aboard, he dreads Big Mom's temper, yet he still risks correcting her when he believes her wrong. He follows orders to the letter even when that means abandoning allies, having endorsed Bege's attempt to gun down Pekoms for going soft. Still, he later resolved to plead for Pekoms' pardon out of respect for their shared past. Betrayal enrages him, and he reacted with fury to news of Bege's assassination plot and shock at Pekoms switching sides. He also dislikes arrogance, scorning Caribou's bluster, though he is not above boasting himself when matched against Pedro.

History

Half a decade before the main story, Pedro and the Nox Pirates trespassed into Big Mom's domain hunting poneglyphs. Tamago fought the mink and lost his left eye in the exchange. Once Pedro was driven off, his former crewmate Pekoms enlisted with the Big Mom Pirates and became Tamago's partner on candy-collection runs. The pair surfaced on Fish-Man Island, where Tamago restrained Pekoms, warned the locals of Big Mom's wrath, and ultimately accepted a hoard of treasure including the Tamatebako after Luffy intervened.

During the Punk Hazard and Dressrosa events, Tamago and Pekoms tracked Caesar Clown and pursued the fleeing Straw Hats. Later he tried to lure Sanji into the crew ahead of the wedding and supplied Vinsmoke Judge with exploding wristlets. On Whole Cake Island he reinforced the Room of Treasure alongside Sweet Commander Smoothie, anticipating that Pedro would come for the poneglyphs. The two old rivals finally collided in the courtyard, where Pedro cut him in half.

That wound triggered his Devil Fruit, the Tama Tama no Mi, a Zoan power that gives his body the structure of an egg: a hard shell around a massive yolk. When the shell breaks, he regenerates from the yolk into a stronger form, cycling from Baron Tamago to the chick-like Viscount Hiyoko and then the rooster Count Niwatori, becoming a "true knight" at the third stage. This loop makes him nearly impossible to kill so long as the yolk survives mid-transformation. Tamago is also deceptively powerful, lifting sacks larger than his own torso and delivering whirling, long-range kicks such as Leg Benedict, while wielding a cane sword with real skill and carrying both Armament and Observation Haki. Surviving Pedro's explosive sacrifice as Niwatori, he helped Mont-d'Or coordinate the hunt for the Straw Hats and warned, unheeded, that the crew should never be underestimated.
