Mr. Tanaka heads security on the floating city of Gran Tesoro and ranks among Gild Tesoro's top officers. This non-canon figure shows up in One Piece Film: Gold and its anime tie-ins, relying on a Devil Fruit that lets him slip straight through solid surfaces.
An immense, heavyset figure, Tanaka has a head that looks oversized next to the rest of him. He dresses in a black suit finished with a green bowtie, and a pale stripe runs along one side of it. Pulled over his scalp is a hood, patterned in black and white and bearing a green star, that hides two horn-shaped growths. During the movie's final battle he is outfitted in gleaming gold armor.
Guard duty is something Tanaka treats with grim seriousness, rushing to any commotion and faithfully passing word of anything important along to Gild Tesoro. He clearly relishes punishing criminals, laughing as his fruit leaves them disoriented. Toward business partners he stays polite and grateful, yet he detests being surrounded by noise and will gladly turn in anyone who has let Tesoro down, fully aware that doing so condemns them to death. A coarser, childish streak surfaces too, such as picking his nose out in the open, and he laughs with the peculiar sound Surururu.
Nine years before the film, Tanaka signed on with Gild Tesoro's crew and came to manage protection throughout Gran Tesoro. He often acts as Tesoro's envoy to allied crews, who pay tribute and follow his relayed orders out of dread. His power comes from the Nuke Nuke no Mi, a Paramecia fruit that permits him to phase through floors, walls, and any solid obstacle, which he uses both to cross the city in an instant and to strike from cover, popping in and out of the ground while firing a pistol he can barely aim.
In the Silver Mine Arc he visited Bill, coveting the silver on display, and afterward cautioned the beaten Bill that a loss to a pirate would not please Tesoro. During Heart of Gold he passed Mad Treasure a Vivre Card to locate Gran Tesoro in return for chasing the Pure Gold. Throughout One Piece Film: Gold he watched the casino floors, cornered the Straw Hats inside the VIP lounge, and plunged Luffy and Franky down into the Golden Prison. Clad in gold for the climax, he taunted Sanji and Robin by phasing across the battlefield, until Robin pinned him with a colossal arm and stripped away his weapon, leaving Sanji to end the fight with a barrage of Diable Jambe kicks.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
