Zodia sports long, wavy brown hair alongside a black beard, full round cheeks, and a wide mouth. His clothing is a black coat over a white shirt, finished off with a purple tie.

Deep loyalty to Whitebeard drives Zodia, who put his own life on the line to free Ace from execution. His bond with his comrades runs strong as well, and he dropped to the ground sobbing when Whitebeard chose to stay behind and die at Marineford so that his sons could flee.

Zodia built his fearsome reputation across the New World and pledged himself to Whitebeard as a subordinate captain. He fights as a swordsman with a long blade, though his exact skill was never demonstrated and is only assumed to match his standing. When Ace was set for execution at Marineford, he and his crew joined the Whitebeard Pirates to mount a rescue, and the fleet of forty-three allied captains startled the Marines by appearing without warning off the coast. The Vice Admirals swatted aside their opening cannon fire, prompting Zodia to laugh at the sheer number of them assembled in one place. He looked on in disbelief after Sengoku revealed Luffy as Dragon's son and watched the rookie send a Giant Squad member flying. Once Ace was freed, he observed Squard's crew storm the plaza vowing to sacrifice themselves. After Ace died and Whitebeard split the plaza to cover his sons' escape, Zodia broke down weeping until Zucca told him to save his tears for the ship. The fighting wound down with the arrival of the Red Hair Pirates and Sengoku's order to halt, letting the survivors withdraw. In a non-canon anime scene, Zodia later attended the funeral held for Whitebeard and Ace.
