A Shudder! The Evil Hand Creeping Up on the Laboratory

Having lived through one of her father's memories, Bonney makes up her mind to keep digging for the truth. Kuma, for his part, continues climbing the Red Line toward Mary Geoise. The effort to find Vegapunk takes a turn for the worse when both communications and surveillance drop out, which leads Shaka to suspect an intruder is loose. Soon after, S-Snake turns York to stone without warning.

Inside the memory, Bonney looks on with dread as a small Kuma runs from a crowd of people; he pleads to be let go, but they hem him in and beat him brutally with bats. Cast back out of the radiant paw into the present, she resolves to learn the whole of Kuma's backstory, while the real Kuma presses on up the Red Line even as the Marines fire on him. Elsewhere, Pythagoras carries on hunting for Vegapunk, only to be ambushed by something unseen in a fierce explosion. Shaka registers the shock of the blast and tries to reach Pythagoras but cannot get through. Checking the surveillance system, he spots a figure standing in the wreckage, yet something has knocked out the Den Den Mushi, robbing him of any view of the blast zone.

Nami's group, having caught the explosion too, goes to track down its origin. They reach a smoke-choked stretch of the lab torn apart by the blast, where they discover Pythagoras's headless body, his head apparently severed by the attacker. His detached head turns up close by, having grown limbs of its own and outlasted the explosion. While the group searches, York comes upon S-Snake, who abruptly hits her with a Mero Mero Beam and petrifies her. The anime has Nami's group reach Luffy before the comms cut out and reveals S-Snake as the one who destroyed the Den Den Mushi, a point the manga left vague. The episode is part of the Egghead Arc.
