The desert duels of Alabasta wind down in this installment. A bruised Usopp and Chopper at last topple the Baroque Works pair of Miss Merry Christmas and Mr. 4, while elsewhere Bon Kurei pinpoints the one thing that paralyzes Sanji, the sight of a woman's face.
Told by Miss Merry Christmas that Luffy has died, Usopp flatly rejects the claim and stays on his feet, convinced his captain lives. He veils the Baroque Works duo in smoke, then lets Chopper bait Mr. 4 into striking his own partner. A hammer fired from Chopper's horns slams into the towering agent, and a wayward baseball finishes both opponents off. In the streets, Bon Kurei trades blows with Sanji and probes the cook's refusal to harm women, while Vivi sprints to end the killing at the palace.
The mole-woman whips Usopp along the dirt and Mr. 4 absorbs the impact, yet the sniper refuses to fall. With the smoke screen and horn-launched hammer combined, the agents finally drop. Across the city, Koza shrugs off the bullet he took back in Nanohana and plots to corner Cobra into surrendering, which sends Vivi racing to reach her father or, failing that, Chaka. Bon Kurei cycles through faces, even borrowing Usopp's, but only his lightning-fast turn into Nami snags Sanji. Reaching the palace, Vivi orders Chaka to bring it down; after a brief tremor of hesitation, he agrees.
