Jump Towards the Falls! Luffy's Feelings!!

The spotlight shifts back to Luffy's earliest years, introducing the hero who shaped him: Shanks, the pirate who entrusted him with the iconic straw hat. Shanks and his crew square off against a rowdy band of mountain bandits causing trouble in the seaside town.

The bandit chief, Higuma, snatches the young Luffy and hurls him into the sea, where the boy is helpless because his Devil Fruit robs him of the ability to swim. As a massive Sea King surges toward the drowning child, Shanks arrives in time to save his life.

The episode rounds out with a Straw Hat Theater short titled Chopper Man, a parody in which the heroic Chopper Man and his assistant Namifia battle a roster of comically villainous versions of the crew.

Luffy's origin with Shanks is recapped, including the kidnapping by Higuma and the rescue from the Lord of the Coast. The accompanying Chopper Man short presents a superhero spoof of the Straw Hats. No new plot advances in the present-day Enies Lobby storyline.

This is a filler recap and the first episode to drop an ending theme entirely, placing the full credits over the opening. It debuts the Straw Hat version of We Are! as the opening and begins a stretch of breather episodes that flash back to early series moments. Much old footage is upscaled and pillarboxed in the 16:9 frame, with One Piece lettering filling the side bars. It is the second time Luffy's inner thoughts are heard, after episode 192.
