Luffy Stands Up! End of a Broken Promise!

Ignoring Nami's pleas, Nezumi digs up the treasure hidden in her orchard, confiscates all of it, and pockets a share for himself. Nami understands that Arlong dispatched the Marine officer to strip her of her money so the fish-man would never have to give up Cocoyasi Village as promised. When she tries to resist, Nezumi shoots Nojiko in the back, wounding her before a village doctor steps in to treat the injury.

Nami storms off to confront Arlong, who coldly argues he broke no part of their bargain by sending Nezumi after her savings. Feeling utterly betrayed, she returns home to find the townspeople, led by Genzo, resolved to fight the Arlong Pirates against her wishes. Knowing they stand no chance, Nami tries to talk them down, but they insist and set off for Arlong Park. In a fury, she stabs the Arlong tattoo on her shoulder again and again, then at last asks Luffy to help her bring the fish-man down. He agrees and sends the crew forward.

Part of the Arlong Park Arc, the episode posted strong drama tracker numbers, an 11.4 in its original airing and 5.3 remastered. Johnny and Yosaku hold the villagers back from charging the base so the Straw Hats can take up the fight on their behalf. One adaptation change: the anime shows the Marines discovering Nami's bloodstained treasure on the spot, whereas the manga places that scene aboard a Marine ship after the village events.
