Buggy's Revenge! The Man who Smiles on the Execution Platform!

Luffy climbs the platform where Gol D. Roger died twenty two years earlier, ignoring a guard who is promptly clubbed by Alvida. The crowd marvels at her transformed beauty, though Luffy only recalls her old self; she reveals she ate the Sube Sube no Mi, leaving her skin perfectly smooth and her looks young. Buggy then bursts in with a Buggy Bomb, blasting the courtyard fountain, and declares he will publicly execute Luffy on the very stage where the Pirate King met his end. Cabaji clamps a set of stocks onto Luffy, trapping him.

Across town, Nami senses a freak storm brewing and warns Sanji and Usopp to rush back to the Going Merry. Zoro arrives sensing trouble, and once the group hears Buggy's plan, he and Sanji dash to the rescue while Nami and Usopp haul supplies to the ship. Smoker and Tashigi learn the three notorious pirates have gathered in the square, and Smoker decides to let Buggy finish Luffy before striking. Given last words, Luffy proclaims he will become the Pirate King, buying just enough time for his crewmates to close in.

As Buggy swings the blade and a grinning Luffy calls out to his crew, a lightning bolt strikes the scaffold, electrocuting Buggy and leaving Luffy untouched amid the falling rain. Smoker, struck by the resemblance to Roger's own execution, orders the assault, but ruined gunpowder and a fresh tailwind favor the escaping pirates. Elsewhere, a green hooded man bearing a large facial tattoo walks the streets, declaring the storm of fate has come. This episode marks the debut of Monkey D. Dragon, Luffy's father.
