An Ancient Island! The Shadow Lurking in Little Garden!

Bound for Little Garden, the crew jokes about whether snow might fall again while Vivi cautions them that the Grand Line must never be taken lightly, a point driven home when a huge dolphin and other outsized creatures threaten the ship. The fog-shrouded island finally appears, marking their second stop along the great sea, and its prehistoric wildlife makes plain that nothing about the place is normal.

Over on Kyuka Island, Mr. 3 prepares a cup of tea as he and Miss Goldenweek discuss how Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine were brought down, resolving to make whoever beat them feel the danger of provoking the organization. Back ashore, Luffy and Vivi set out with Karoo, Zoro and Sanji spin their hunting into a contest over who can bring down the bigger creature, and Nami, rattled by the strange sounds, remembers reading about the island just as a towering figure steps out of the jungle.

Arriving at Little Garden, the Straw Hats find an island stuck in a prehistoric era, alive with dinosaurs and giant beasts. Vivi reasons that the perils of the Grand Line cut the island off, keeping its ancient ecosystem intact. Sanji barely escapes a Tyrannosaurus, Zoro comes across a Triceratops, and Luffy and Vivi run into a Brachiosaurus. Nami recalls what she had read about the place and warns Usopp as an enormous silhouette appears, hinting at the giant Brogy.

This installment opens the Little Garden arc, and Pandaman turns up in a cameo. The running rivalry between Zoro and Sanji truly kicks off here. In the adaptation Nami searches the bookshelves barefoot, and Usopp wanders down to look in on her, neither detail present in the manga. Beginning with this episode, Nami is voiced by Wakana Yamazaki instead of Akemi Okamura, who was on maternity leave until Episode 79. Debuting characters include Miss Goldenweek, Mr. 3, the giant Brogy, Samurai Batts, and the Brontosaurus, along with Kyuka Island. It carries a rating of 13.1.
