Liar - Luffy and Sanji

A recap retraces how Luffy, after kicking Bobbin away, fought Counter to a standstill and knocked him out before dragging himself to Kingbaum's body on his last strength. Sanji, scouring the fallen for his captain, located him by the rumble of his stomach. In the present, the smell of the bento rouses Luffy, who happily devours the rain-soaked meal and declares it delicious, recognizing every crewmate's favorite dish inside.

Sanji coldly lists his reasons for staying behind: striking Luffy, the hostage threat against Zeff and the Baratie, and his wish to spare his cruel family from assassination. Disgusted by the lie, Luffy decks him into Kingbaum's corpse and demands his honest feelings. Memories of cooking for the rowdy, grateful crew break Sanji down, and through tears he admits he wants to return yet cannot desert his family. Luffy grins and vows to help him crash the wedding. As dawn breaks, Katakuri reaches the chateau and accurately predicts its gates will open for him, with five and a half hours left before the Tea Party.

Luffy defeats Counter and crawls to the meeting place. Sanji feeds him the bento, and Luffy eats it gratefully. After Sanji recites his excuses for staying, Luffy punches him and forces the truth out of him. Sanji confesses he longs to rejoin the Straw Hats but feels bound to his family, and Luffy promises to disrupt the wedding together. Charlotte Katakuri arrives at the chateau and shows off his foresight, making his series debut in this episode.

The anime adds the close of Luffy's fight with Counter, his arrival beside Kingbaum, and a touch where Sanji briefly pictures the fallen Chess Soldiers as Baratie chefs while worrying over the restaurant. Katakuri's appearance is moved earlier than the manga, which first showed him at the Tea Party, and his foresight is demonstrated here. Sanji's reflection on the crew is extended, and the opening credits run five minutes into the episode rather than at the start. It is part of the Whole Cake Island arc.
