After catching up on Levely news, Luffy's group reaches the treacherous waters ringing Wano, which empty out at the base of a towering waterfall. Luffy hitches the ship to giant carp to scale it, only for the crew to sail straight into a whirlpool and for Luffy to sink beneath the waves.
Aboard the Thousand Sunny on its way to Wano, Nami scans a newspaper and shouts to Luffy upon spotting that Shirahoshi and her family have reached Mary Geoise. The crew then takes in pictures of Vivi, their Dressrosa companions, and figures both friendly and hostile from Drum Island. Chopper snatches the page to clip out a photo of Kureha while Sanji removes the princess portraits, which keeps Nami from finishing an article on Big Mom and Kaidou and leaves her furious. Luffy tries to reach Kin'emon by Den Den Mushi but gets no connection.
A flashback on Zou recalls how the samurai revealed Momonosuke as heir to the Kuri daimyo Kouzuki Oden, who was slain by Wano's shogun and Kaidou, and asked Luffy and Law to help avenge him. In the present an octopus secretly climbs onto the Sunny as the crew pushes into a zone of harsh winds and erratic currents. A current sweeps them downward, and the shapes they dread as predators prove to be enormous carp, one of which Luffy promptly tries to ride. The flow carries the ship to the foot of a waterfall, so Luffy grabs two ascending carp and drags the Sunny upward. They crest the top and glimpse land ahead, but a whirlpool lies in their path, and Luffy is soon shown sinking into the sea.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

Anime-original moments include Brook remarking on wanting to see Vivi's underwear when they reunite, which earns him a hit from Nami, scenes of the octopus stowing away, and Nami striking Luffy to make him release the carp before the whirlpool. In the manga the whirlpool struck immediately on reaching the summit, whereas the anime gives the crew a beat to view Wano first, and the plunge into the whirlpool runs longer. The carp sequence briefly adopts an ukiyo-e painting style. This marks the last episode to feature Super Powers as its opening song.
In Episode 891, the Straw Hats sail into Wano's turbulent sea zone, where Luffy uses giant carp to climb a waterfall before the Thousand Sunny faces a whirlpool and Luffy sinks beneath the waves.
