A Living Hell - Luffy, Humiliated in the Great Mine

Knocked out by Kaidou, Luffy is dragged toward captivity, yet his unconscious body still flares with Supreme King Haki and floors the goons trying to bind him. Kaidou shrugs the moment off, shifts into his dragon shape, and returns to Onigashima. Elsewhere, a wounded Law slips into the woods after escaping Hawkins, only for Hawkins to catch up with Luffy and lock him in chains. Across the region, the survivors of the castle's collapse are accounted for as Kiku retraces her steps to where Oden Castle once stood.

Kiku discovers a vast sinkhole and learns how the Straw Hats lived: Shinobu rotted the earth with her Devil Fruit so the group dropped clear of Kaidou's flame breath, with Chopper's Guard Point cushioning the fall. Inuarashi recovers Tama, still alive after the assault, and carries her off. Bounty posters announcing Luffy's clash with an Emperor spread nationwide, leaving his crew stunned that he took on Kaidou alone. Luffy is delivered to Udon's industrial pits and forced into slave labor. A concealed, dangerous prisoner spits a fish bone through the neck of a guard who taunts Luffy, then Luffy is thrown into a cell beside Eustass Kid, who shares his hunger to topple Kaidou.

The adaptation layers in extra material: Kaidou voicing his contempt for the Worst Generation before Luffy's Haki erupts, Law trudging through the forest, the Beasts Pirates cuffing and dragging Luffy to Udon, and a flashback of Shinobu rescuing the group. Tonoyasu is shown aboard the same vessel Zoro rode, and Zoro's reaction to the headline runs longer. Unlike the print version, Sanji, Shinobu, Nami, and Carrot are absent from the pit when Kiku finds it, Kawamatsu's silhouette is sharper, the dividing wall between Luffy and Kid is dropped, and the stabbed guard sheds no blood. The chapter marks debuts for Gorobe, Tonoyasu, and Pudos, the Udon and Prisoner Mine locations, and the Juku Juku no Mi.
