Masira Pirates

Wreck salvage and treasure recovery, rather than plunder, keep this band fed. Their captain is Masira, and together with Mont Blanc Cricket and the Shoujou Pirates they make up the Saruyama Alliance. A grinning baboon head serves as their emblem, and where crossbones would normally sit, two bananas take that spot instead. Flown on the sails of their vessel, the Victory Hunter, the mark rides above a figurehead shaped like a cymbal-clashing monkey. Palm trees stand in rows down both flanks, and a pair of banana-shaped poles work the pulleys that raise that monkey statue.

No one has ever gauged how mighty the whole crew is. What is known points to real muscle: their captain alone carries a 23,000,000-berry bounty, and a single swing of his once dropped an enormous sea beast. Holding and defending a stretch of ocean near Jaya offers further proof of their reach. Inside the Saruyama Alliance, the group functions as one of the salvage teams driving a shared, decades-long search for the vanished City of Gold.

Masira both leads the crew and stands as its one individually named figure. Some eight years before the present tale, he and his sworn brother Shoujou answered a call from Mont Blanc Cricket; the account of Noland preserved in Liar Noland is what drew them, and the three set out together to locate Shandora. At Jaya, Masira first ran into the Straw Hat Pirates after a giant ship dropped out of the sky, and he and Shoujou later reworked the Going Merry so it could rise to Skypiea. When Luffy struck the Shandorian golden bell and confirmed the sky island was real, the alliance's dream came true, and the brothers chose to keep sailing at Cricket's side toward their next aim. Long after, the Saruyama Alliance was seen adventuring once more, hunting the fabled island of Nakrowa.
