Enma ranks among the Great Grade tier of famous blades, hammered out by the smith Shimotsuki Kouzaburou and later borne by Kouzuki Oden. Feared as almost unmasterable, the katana now rests with Roronoa Zoro, who accepted it after surrendering the stolen Shusui.
Placed within the twenty-one Great Grade swords, Enma emerged from the workshop of the storied smith Shimotsuki Kouzaburou, who considered it the crowning achievement of his career, superior even to Wado Ichimonji. Ownership traveled from Kouzuki Oden down to his daughter Kouzuki Hiyori, and finally to Roronoa Zoro, who wields it today among his trio of blades. Sukiyaki once said the sword could slice all the way down into the depths of hell, a deliberate counterpart to its sibling Ame no Habakiri, described as capable of cleaving the heavens.
As its Volume 96 cover art reveals, the katana bends in a moderate curve and wears a colour scheme of lilac and gold. A trefoil guard mirrors the one on Ame no Habakiri, while both the lacquered grip and the scabbard bear plain five-petalled floral motifs, and along the edge runs a jagged, flame-shaped temper line. Its notorious quirk is that the blade draws out an excess of the user's Armament Haki, hardening the steel and biting deeper than the swordsman ever meant. That trait earned it a reputation as a weapon nobody could subdue: before Zoro, Oden alone had bent it to his will, and Kin'emon, who led the Scabbards, was afraid of the thing. Testing it for the first time, Zoro shaved off part of a cliff while aiming merely to cut down a tree, and the sword left his right arm withered before his Haki skill let him reclaim the drained power, a recovery Sukiyaki praised since ordinary fighters would have been reduced to empty shells.
In Oden's hands the katana achieved legendary feats, aiding in the bisection of the giant Mountain God and enduring exchanges with the Supreme Grade blades of Edward Newgate and Gol D. Roger. Alongside Ame no Habakiri it dealt Kaidou the only scar he ever bore, making the pair the sole weapons known to wound that Emperor. After Oden died the swords passed to his wife Toki and were later kept safe by his father Sukiyaki, until Hiyori offered Enma to Zoro as a fair trade for the national treasure Shusui, which he had earned from its undead former holder. Amid the assault on Onigashima the blade began giving off Oden's own aura like a flame, unnerving Big Mom and leading Kaidou to identify it as his old rival's sword. Zoro reopened Kaidou's scar and later cut down a Lunarian with it. Should he ever fix the weapon into a permanent black blade, Sukiyaki believes its ranking might climb toward Supreme Grade.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Enma is named after Enma, also known as Yama, the Buddhist king of Hell, fitting the blade's reputation as a sword said to cut down into the depths of hell.
Zoro receives Enma when Kouzuki Hiyori offers it to him as a fair trade after he gives up the stolen sword Shusui, which he had earned from its previous undead holder.
Yes, Enma remains with Roronoa Zoro, who carries it as one of his three swords after receiving it from Kouzuki Hiyori.
Enma is ranked as a Great Grade blade, one tier below Supreme Grade, and swordsmith Sukiyaki believes it could rise to Supreme Grade if it were permanently fixed into a black blade, though this has not yet happened.
Enma is difficult to wield because it draws out an excess of its user's Armament Haki, hardening the blade and cutting deeper than intended, a trait that drained Zoro's arm and left him temporarily withered the first time he used it.
