Summary

Vegapunk's assertion that the world's fate now rides on pirates throws everyone into turmoil. Many fear their homelands will sink, pirates the world over rejoice that the One Piece is genuine and crave it, and the Marines seethe. Koby recalls the day Luffy first told him his dream of claiming the treasure and decides he cannot allow it. Within Cross Guild, Buggy fires up his crew with talk of seizing the world, while Blackbeard tells Devon he will listen to Caribou and kill him himself should the information prove worthless.

On Egghead, Warcury batters Emet once more, this time crushing the broadcast snail and ending Vegapunk's message permanently. The Straw Hats continue plummeting through the sky as a fully restored Nusjuro chases right behind them. Emet apologizes again to Joy Boy and then to Luffy for the earlier mistake, hoping to be forgiven for failing to crown him king, and asks the boy his name. On hearing it, Emet loosens a knot inside its body, thanks Luffy for letting it catch the Drums of Liberation one final time, and pledges to keep him alive. A colossal wave of Supreme King Haki bursts forth, dropping most of the Marines, stripping the Five Elders of their transformed forms, and flinging Warcury, Nusjuro, and Ju Peter clear across to Mary Geoise's Room of Authority, where Mars already waited. Even Imu nearly crumples while spitting curses at Joy Boy.

The Thousand Sunny settles onto the water as Saturn, now the sole Elder remaining on Egghead, fixes his gaze on the robot. Emet remembers a talk with Joy Boy from centuries ago, when Joy Boy sealed a fragment of his own Supreme King Haki into a knot within Emet and instructed it to loosen that knot and let the power loose whenever it faced mortal peril or had someone worth protecting. Moved that a part of Joy Boy lingers with it even beyond his death, Emet powers down recalling how the two once laughed at how far off such danger seemed, musing on whether loneliness will find it by then before slipping back into rest.

Key Events

Blackbeard agrees to receive Caribou and hear his information. Vegapunk's broadcast is cut off for good once Warcury destroys the livestream snail, and the Thousand Sunny lands at sea. Koby resolves that he must keep Luffy from finding the One Piece. More than eight hundred years earlier, Joy Boy entrusted Emet with a compressed share of his Supreme King Haki, bound in a knot for emergencies, the first glimpse the manga offers of the Void Century itself. Emet undoes that knot, stripping away the Five Elders' transformations and hurling the trio into the Room of Authority at Mary Geoise, where Mars had already arrived, leaving only Saturn behind, while Imu recoils in pain from the Haki.

Notes

An Egghead Arc chapter whose cover pays tribute to the finale of My Hero Academia by reproducing a 2002 fan sketch of Smoker drawn by that manga's author, first featured in the Usopp Gallery Pirates pages of an early volume, here reworked with the post-timeskip Smoker and revised lettering.
