Saturn lauds Garling for unearthing the clan and selecting the island for the hunt, a choice the Knight waves off as mere fate. Off to the side, the dying mother of Shanks and Shamrock begs Dragon to keep her sons clear of Garling's influence, and he swears to track down and protect them. Once the Native Hunting Competition begins, the marked prey scatter, hoping to survive three weeks. Sparing neither child nor infant, the Nobles butcher freely while their kin back in Mary Geoise watch the live broadcast, cheering and wagering. Revolted yet fearful for his platoon, Dragon still tranquilizes a Noble lining up a shot on Kuma, just as the Rocks Pirates come ashore.

Ahead of the hunt, several of the Davy Family are paraded in front of the World Nobles, and at the mother's plea Dragon takes up the rescue of Shanks and Shamrock, slipping away with both infants in his arms amid the bloodshed. He also drops a Noble who tries to gun down an unsuspecting Kuma, and the Bavette Family earns its first mention. Rocks lands and tells his crew to hold off any infighting until the treasure, the Devil Fruits, and Shakky are claimed and split fairly, his crewmates squabbling over who gets to free her. The Roger Pirates make their own landing, though Roger is flattened by his overeager crew. Garling rallies the Knights of God, fresh pirate crews keep swarming the island, and Garp's arrival to save his troops instantly catches the eye of both Roger and Rocks.
