Chapter 145: Inherited Will

Believing he can heal the ailing Isshi-20, Hiriluk walks straight into a snare set by Wapol, who only wanted the troublesome physician within reach. The king mocks him while his soldiers take aim, yet the doctor does not crumble. Dropping to his knees, Hiriluk gives thanks that the soldiers are unharmed and refuses to be gunned down, declaring his end is already near.

As Chopper races to reach him, Hiriluk delivers his final words, insisting that a man truly dies only once everyone has forgotten him. Noticing Dalton in tears over the suffering nation, he raises a glass filled with a volatile substance and drinks it, ending his own life in an explosion. All that drifts down to the arriving Chopper is the doctor's hat. Enraged by Wapol's laughter, Dalton shields the charging reindeer and pleads with him to flee rather than become another casualty for the country.

Hiriluk ends his life by swallowing an explosive drink rather than dying at Wapol's hands. Dalton blocks Chopper from attacking the king and lets the so-called monster escape, openly defying his ruler, and the two square off. Chopper reaches Kureha's home, plants Hiriluk's flag, and begs her to teach him medicine, vowing to cure every illness on earth. The flashback ends as Luffy's punch from earlier finally connects with Wapol's face.

The cover continues the Jango's Dance Paradise serial, with Jango and his rival dancing to a tie that whips the crowd, Marines included, into a frenzy. The chapter title nods to a line spoken by Gol D. Roger back in Chapter 100, where he named inherited will, human dreams, and the flow of the ages as forces that cannot be halted. The remaining two of those forces would later headline Chapter 225 and Chapter 1121.
