Summary

Boodle squares off against Buggy over the future of his town. As the pirates jeer, the acrobat Cabaji volunteers to strike the mayor down, but Buggy stops him, noting the old man's challenge was aimed at him alone. Tickled that Boodle calls the town his treasure, Buggy detaches his right arm and flings it forward, catching the mayor around the neck and hauling him off his feet. Boodle tears at the gripping hand while gasping for breath, and Buggy gloats that once he is done here he will plunder every prize the Grand Line holds.

Luffy reaches them just in time and wrenches the floating hand off the mayor's neck. With Buggy reattaching the limb, Nami urges the two swordsmen into the fight, then runs off to seize the Grand Line chart along with any nearby valuables she can carry. Furious at the rescue, the mayor demands to face Buggy by himself, so Luffy simply decks him to keep him out of harm's way, leaving Nami stunned. Luffy then jeers at Buggy by mocking his nose, horrifying everyone, and when a Buggy Ball comes flying, the rubber man swells up and sends the shell hurtling right back into the crew.

Notes

This is the first chapter whose title is written entirely in English, leaving aside the pronunciation characters. Its closing five pages also count as the earliest One Piece content given an official English release, appearing late in 2002 within an Issue #0 preview that Viz Media ran ahead of the American launch of Weekly Shonen Jump. The Animal Theater cover depicts mammoths carrying the Straw Hats across a tundra. The chapter is part of the Orange Town Arc.
