Summary

A short flashback in the Sexy Foxy's resting room shows Usopp convincing Luffy to put on an afro, insisting the hairstyle awakens latent power and a mightier punch, a claim Luffy buys entirely. Back in the present, both contestants enter the arena. Itomimizu reiterates the terms: the whole ship, lower decks included, counts as the field, the edge sits a hundred meters out from the mast, no time limit applies, and victory comes when one fighter is knocked out of the area. The audience stand lifts so that only the two combatants share the terrain.

At the bell, Luffy fires a Gomu Gomu no Pistol, yet Foxy strikes the fist with his Noro Noro Beam, leaving it crawling back while he steps aside. Luffy finds the slowdown grows worse the harder he tries, and Foxy redirects the beam to trap him in midair, upside down. A Foxy Rush of punches follows, their force held in suspension, and once thirty seconds pass every blow lands at once, hurling Luffy until he hooks the ship by stretching an arm. Wary now of the beam, he resolves against overreaching, narrowly dodges a flight of arrows, and spots Foxy drifting in on a slowed cannonball. His own bid to ride the cannonballs collapses as each effect runs out, dumping him onto the deck. Foxy then triggers the Foxy Face Bomb, scattering tiny talking heads, one being Foxy himself, who lands a heavy punch before the thirty-second timer blows the bombs in a huge explosion.

Key Events

This Battle Round, the closing event of the whole contest, gets underway, with Luffy sporting the afro because Usopp swore it would power up his punch. Through the duel, Luffy comes to grasp how the Noro Noro no Mi operates: whatever the beam catches stays slowed for a full thirty seconds, and outside forces such as incoming punches are delayed the same way. Foxy also swaps out his standard gloves for a spiked pair and detonates the Foxy Face Bombs against Luffy.

Notes

The cover opens the cover serial about Gedatsu, his accidental life adrift in the Blue Sea, with Volume 1 noting that an angel descends from the sky. Far overhead, miles up over the ocean, a silhouette drops down through the cloud layer. The chapter was adapted in Episode 217, pages 2 through 19, and belongs to the Long Ring Long Land Arc within the Water 7 Saga.
