Titled "The Mysterious Four of Thriller Bark," this chapter pledges the Straw Hats to a shadowless old man, exposes how Hogback manufactures zombies, and unveils the island as the world's largest pirate ship while its four masters stir to action.
Moved by the elder Spoil's plea, Luffy's group vows to recover the shadows that Gecko Moria has stolen, even as Franky weeps openly and Zoro scolds him for being soft. Hidden victims in the dark forest cheer the crew on. Meanwhile, the three separated members spy on Hogback gloating over a freshly built giant corpse while Cindry, gloomy and morbid, serves a ruined meal. Chopper, Usopp, and Nami study the numbered body and conclude the doctor reanimates the dead.
The trio are flushed out by a flesh-and-bone swordsman whose laugh mimics Brook's, crashing them into Hogback's lab and exposing their presence. In a graveyard, an unseen Absalom rouses zombie soldiers who call him leader, his invisibility gradually fading into view. At a mansion, a bear creature named Kumashi is berated for failing to be cute. Three zombies wake the slumbering Moria for the night raid, noting their prey toppled Enies Lobby.
The fog parts to reveal that Thriller Bark is no island but the largest ship ever made, its rear mansion serving as the main mast where Moria dwells. Absalom and Perona are introduced as two of the Mysterious Four, the former turning invisible and the latter commanding the draining ghost spirits. Moria takes a pointed interest in Luffy. The color spread shows Luffy, Nami, and Zoro in black formalwear amid castle ruins and a red dragon.
