Squard suddenly comes crashing into the plaza aboard one of Whitebeard's spare ships, intending to stall the Marines so the rest can escape. As his cuffs are unlocked, the vessel barrels forward, only for Whitebeard to stop it dead with a single hand. He tells Squard he has done nothing wrong, since his own lifespan is nearly spent, then announces his last captain's order. Over his men's protests, he commands them all to part ways and return alive to the New World no matter the cost, calling himself a leftover of a bygone age as he splits the city with a quake. Recalling the crewmates of his youth who once asked what he wanted if not treasure, Whitebeard declares his long voyage is over and that he means to finish things with the Marines.

Satisfied that Ace is free, Whitebeard issues a final order to his crew and allies. He stops Squard's reckless charge and demands everyone retreat to the New World while he holds the line. The chapter sets up the captain's intended last stand.
