Chapter 584

Porchemy drags Luffy to a wrecked, overturned ship and tries to beat Ace and Sabo's whereabouts out of him. Luffy's rubbery body shrugs off the blows, so the pirate dons spiked gloves and sends his crew to hunt the other two boys. Ace, meanwhile, finishes burying their treasure beyond the pirates' reach, and Sabo reports that Luffy has still not given them up. With his captain Bluejam losing patience, an increasingly desperate Porchemy decides to finish the boy off.

Ace and Sabo burst in and cut Luffy free. Sabo means to flee, but Ace, refusing to run, squares off against Porchemy, and Sabo turns back to help bring the pirate down. When Bluejam finds his beaten subordinate, he kills him for failing. Asked afterward why he never betrayed them, Luffy explains that Ace is the only one he can lean on and he wanted him to live, which Ace dismisses by calling him a spoiled brat, sparking a quarrel. Sabo interrupts, needing somewhere to hide from Bluejam, so the trio arrange for him to live at Dadan's too. Together they brawl with beasts, town thugs, and pirates until their names spread through Goa Kingdom, and Dadan reads that the World Nobles are coming to visit.

Ace and Sabo save Luffy and defeat Porchemy, who is then killed by Bluejam. The chapter deepens the bond between Luffy and Ace, with Luffy revealing Ace is the first person he could depend on, and Ace coming to value his own life because so many want Roger's son dead. Sabo moves in with the brothers, and all three become infamous across Goa, where at least one Celestial Dragon is set to arrive.
