The mysterious figure identifies himself as Vergo and discloses that Monet was inserted as a spy because his superior never trusted Caesar. He says he boarded a SAD tanker out of Dressrosa on an instinct that proved correct, and he brushes aside Law's insistence that he has done nothing. The moment Law grips his sword, Vergo's paralyzing ability forces the blade from his hand before it can leave its sheath. Vergo then darkens a length of bamboo with Haki and cracks it down hard behind Law's skull, telling him to address him respectfully from now on.

Outside the facility, the Marines look on in shock as Caesar drops Luffy, Robin, Franky, Smoker, and Tashigi one after another without ever touching them. He orders the five bound with seastone and tells his men to abandon the Marines and shelter inside, since strange things have begun raining from the sky.

In the lake, Sanji chases down a shark clutching the samurai's torso in its jaws. He strikes the creature with Joue Shoot, recovers the missing piece, and uses Blue Walk to launch himself clear of the water just before poison swallows the entire surface. The shark dies instantly from the toxin, and Sanji escapes with the torso to everyone's relief.

With his body whole again, the samurai delivers his formal greeting at last. He gives his name as Kin'emon, states that Kuri in Wano Country is where he was born, and tells Sanji he is forever in his debt. When Slime keeps creeping toward the group, Kin'emon demonstrates his Foxfire Style on one of the blobs, setting it ablaze. The fire erupts into a blinding explosion, yet he carves straight through the blast and leaves everyone unharmed.

Kin'emon explains that his swordsmanship can both ignite whatever it slashes and slice apart flames themselves. He announces his intent to reach the lab and rescue his son, prompting Zoro, fascinated by the technique, to volunteer as an escort. Vergo is fully revealed for the first time and subdues Law, the second time in the series a character has been introduced merely as a mysterious man. Monet's hidden loyalty to Vergo is also confirmed.
