Jupiter, the Powerful Girl in Love

Queen Beryl spends the energy gathered so far to briefly rouse Queen Metalia, who commands her to secure the Silver Crystal. The path to it runs through the Seven Great Youma and the Rainbow Crystal shards hidden within them. On the human side, the towering Makoto Kino arrives at Usagi's school and finds herself drawn to a boy who wins every prize at the arcade's crane game.

Beryl explains to Kunzite and Zoisite that the Seven Great Youma were once the Dark Kingdom's mightiest fighters, sealed into crystal fragments, cast to Earth and reborn as humans with no memory of their pasts. She entrusts Zoisite with the Dark Crystal, tuned to react to those shards, and a hologram shows the first human carrying one. That day Makoto defends Usagi from three bullies, and the two become quick friends over a shared lunch, since classmates had been too wary of the transfer student to approach her.

At the arcade Makoto is captivated by Joe, the crane-game champion, who resembles the boy who once broke her heart. Zoisite stalks Joe and uses the Dark Crystal to force the Rainbow Crystal out of him. Makoto intervenes with martial arts, but Joe coldly rejects her, saying tall girls are not his type. Once Zoisite claims the shard, Joe transforms into the monster Gamecen.

Gamecen swings a mallet at Sailor Moon and traps her in a device. Enraged, Makoto lifts the monster overhead as the sign of Jupiter flares on her forehead. Luna hands her a Transformation Pen, and with the cry of Jupiter Power, Make Up she becomes Sailor Jupiter, loosing her first Supreme Thunder. Reminded that the creature was once human, Sailor Moon uses the newly received Moon Stick and Moon Healing Escalation to restore Joe. Luna then names Usagi leader of the team now that the fourth Guardian has been found.

Kazuhisa Takenouchi directed the episode from a script by Shigeru Yanagawa, and it first aired in Japan on September 5, 1992. The DiC dub, titled Jupiter Comes Thundering In, reached North America on October 9, 1995. This chapter marks the debut of Makoto and her transformation sequence, the introduction of Queen Metalia, the Rainbow Crystals and the Moon Stick, and a turning point in which the enemy shifts from draining energy to hunting the Rainbow Crystals. It was also the last episode voiced by Tracey Moore as Serena in the English dub.
