Saphir Dies: Wiseman's Trap

Saphir uncovers what Wiseman is really scheming beneath his loyalty to the Black Moon, and the discovery leaves him a marked man. Desperate, he slips back to the present-day past, where the former Spectre Sisters, long since healed by Sailor Moon, stumble upon him and take him in.

The refuge does not last. Wiseman hunts Saphir down and strikes him dead before he can carry his warning about the true evil to Prince Demande, ensuring the Black Moon's leader stays blind to the danger at the heart of his own cause.

Saphir's death removes the one figure who understood Wiseman's endgame and might have turned Demande against him. The reformed sisters, drawn back into the story by sheltering the fugitive, share their final scene here alongside Saphir himself, closing out both the Spectre Sisters and the doomed brother in a single episode.

The manga handled the ending differently, with Saphir corrupted rather than killed after learning Wiseman's intentions, and with Prince Demande himself striking the fatal blow instead of Wiseman. The two English dubs also diverge sharply. The DiC version has Saphir warn Demande that Wiseman means to awaken the Death Phantom, while the Viz dub frames the plan as erasing the future, and DiC trimmed both the second energy blast that kills Saphir and the later scene of Calaveras comforting a grieving Petz. The Sailor Says segment attached to the episode was recycled from an earlier installment.
