Appearance

Esil presents as a demon girl whose long purple hair frames large red eyes, with sharp red markings beside them and pronounced canines. Her youthful, almost human features struck Jinwoo the moment they first met inside the Demon Castle, despite her demonic nature. A short red cape over white armor streaked with red paint defined her earliest look. As she climbed the castle's higher floors, that gave way to gray armor touched with blue paint, plus black plating that shielded her upper arms, shoulders, and chest.

Personality

For all that she is a demon, Esil comes across as candid, warm, and easy to like. A selfish, shameless streak runs through her too, on display when she pleaded for her own survival after Jinwoo cut down every one of her knights, insisting they would gladly have died so long as she lived. She can also turn sly and treacherous, which she showed by trying to drive a blade into Jinwoo's back once he had let his guard slip around her.

History

Her father sent Esil and a band of her clan's knights to wipe out Jinwoo and his troops once he reached the castle's eightieth level. After he slaughtered every knight and stood ready to finish her, she surrendered at once and bargained for mercy, offering anything he wished. Two fruitless days hunting the entry permit, plus a reluctance to slay someone so human-looking, led Jinwoo to take the deal without hesitation. Once he secured the permit from her clan, she trailed along, marveling as he tore through the residents of each floor. On the hundredth and final level the Demon King Baran summoned his forces and clashed with Jinwoo; when Baran took control of the fight, Esil flung a dagger at his face, buying Jinwoo the opening to recover and punch the king's head clean off.

Delighted that her clan now topped the demon hierarchy, she invited Jinwoo to a feast on her floor, but he turned it down, saying the trip back was too long. Eager to test whether the Holy Water of Life might cure his mother, he thanked her and left, vanishing through Shadow Exchange before she could even protest. After the Cup of Reincarnation forged a new timeline, the unstable castle drove the surviving demons to flee into a realm called the World of Eternal Slumber, with the Shadow Monarch granting them refuge there, and Esil stood among them with her father. Come Ragnarok, a stabilized Demon World called its own home; a rebellion of lower demons stirred by an Apostle killed every noble but her during her father's reign, leaving her a fugitive and the last of her line. During the succession ritual, Baran's Horn absorbed her soul and pulled it into the space around the World Tree, where Nidhogg coiled and blocked her path; Suho's unknown passive summoned him beside her, and together they severed one of the beast's heads to complete the rite. Now bearing the Monarch of Gluttony title and full command of her powers, she pledged herself to Suho, bestowed on him her Gluttony Blessing that lifts experience gain by 300 percent, and handed over a rare substance, the Demon King's Purified Blood, required to make the Holy Water of Life.
