Kanae Tawata

Tall and slim, Kanae carries long hair in a deep purple shade that matches her lipstick, set against red eyes and black-painted nails. Dark tattoos sprawl down both arms and reach across the upper left of her chest, and tapping into her power makes her eyes flare red. Her look shifts by arc: her debut paired a purple baseball cap with black pants and a pink jacket, while during the Japan Crisis she wore pigtails, a loose midriff-baring pink jacket, baggy black pants, and black armored boots, two katanas hanging at her left hip.

Stern and businesslike, Kanae truly looks after her teammates. On the Jeju Island Raid she barked at Kumamoto to quit his panic before it got him killed. A short temper rides alongside that care. Hoshino set it off twice: once by insisting over and over that the Ant King would doom them, and again when she got stuck clearing the corpses of giants that Jinwoo's shadow army had already cut down in the Tokyo Crisis, a chore she loudly hated.

The Jeju Island Arc brought Kanae to the Korean Hunters' Gym alongside the rest of the raid party, four days before the 4th raid. She entered the 4v4 exhibition and drew Cha Hae-In, whose superior speed ultimately handed her the loss. Placed on Team Bravo with Kumamoto during the real raid, she was ordered by Reiji to search for survivors once the Ant King had wiped out Teams Alpha, Charlie, and Delta. She found Hoshino, the lone survivor from Team Alpha, and shoved him aside in frustration when he collapsed into despair rather than answering her.

An S-Rank Gate tearing open in the heart of Tokyo dragged her into the Japan Crisis Arc. Once the dungeon broke and Yuri Orloff was dead, she teamed with Hoshino to strike at a giant, only for the monster to swat them away effortlessly. After Jinwoo's shadows shredded the giants, the pair were stranded in the wreckage. Drained, Kanae slumped onto a dead giant's head and griped to Hoshino that their weakness had made them useless. Goto Ryuji recognized her skill, which marked her as strong for an S-Rank even though Cha outclassed her and the invading giants left her helpless. Both the anime and webtoon rename her Kana in the Japanese localization.
