Loid briefly weighs the intelligence value of rubbing shoulders with so senior an official before dropping the idea as far too risky. The officers, meanwhile, debate ejecting their superior until an older member recalls a rumor: snubbed from a New Year's party years ago, Wilker retaliated by driving his subordinates through a merciless hunt for spies. Terrified of a repeat, they let him stay. Wilker corners Loid with pizza, answers a polite refusal with a glare and theatrical sobbing, and with Yuri piling on, Loid gives in. Curtis quietly begs Yuri to rein in their superior, without success.

Yor finally arrives, delighting Yuri and alarming Loid, who knows that a civilian who publicly unmasks an SSS officer faces severe consequences, and that fear of being reported to the SSS pushed Yor into their marriage in the first place. Yet her exchanges with Curtis and Chloe defuse themselves: she marvels at the claim that Yuri enjoys fishing and fumbles a greeting into one of Anya's phrases, leaving Loid exasperated rather than exposed.

Needing an exit that will not stir Yuri's suspicion, Loid quietly urges Yor to keep attention off their marriage. She hears it as worry that their couple act is unconvincing and, remembering her coworkers' advice about building tolerance through practice, resolves to try harder, seizing his hand in front of everyone. Yuri's horrified reaction hands Loid a weapon: he pulls Yor closer, betting that displays of affection will drive her brother off, and Yuri obliges by vomiting blood, which the officers wave away as routine.

The dart-firing wristwatch evokes the tranquilizer watch used throughout Detective Conan, and the English edition reworks Yor's greeting mix-up into a "Pleased to meet you" versus "Appeased to meet you" gag.
