Super Saiyan 4 Goku Joins the Roster
The New DLC Character
Dragon Ball FighterZ added Super Saiyan 4 Goku as a new playable character on April 22, 2026. The downloadable content is available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. It is the Super Saiyan 4 version of Goku as featured in the Dragon Ball Daima anime, rather than a form carried over from an older game.
The release is offered as a bundle. Along with the playable character, it includes a set of Z-Stamps, Lobby Avatars, and 12 alternate costume colors. Those extra items are cosmetic, while Super Saiyan 4 Goku is the new fighter itself. The character is sold as a paid add-on, in line with how FighterZ has released its previous downloadable fighters.
A Long-Running Fighting Game
FighterZ Nearly Eight Years On
Dragon Ball FighterZ launched in January 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version arriving later that year. It was developed by Arc System Works, the studio known for the Guilty Gear series, and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is a 2D fighter built around three-versus-three team battles, and at release it drew wide praise for visuals that closely mimic the look of the anime.
Over the years the roster grew past 40 characters through several downloadable content seasons, pulling fighters from across Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball GT. Earlier seasons added the likes of Broly, Gogeta, and Super Baby 2, among others. New playable characters are uncommon for a fighting game of this age, so the Super Saiyan 4 Goku DLC reflects continued support nearly eight years after launch. The game has also kept an active competitive scene, with FighterZ matches still featured at official Dragon Ball events.
Super Saiyan 4 and Daima
Where the Form Comes From
Super Saiyan 4 is a transformation that first appeared in Dragon Ball GT, the anime series from the late 1990s. Dragon Ball GT was an anime-original sequel that aired after Dragon Ball Z and was not based on a manga by Akira Toriyama. In the form, Goku takes on red fur and a more primal appearance, and it became one of the most recognizable images from GT. Super Saiyan 4 was then absent from new Dragon Ball productions for years before it returned to the screen in Dragon Ball Daima, the anime that ran across 2024 and 2025.
By drawing its newest fighter from Daima, the DLC connects the 2018 game to a recent anime rather than to GT. Bandai Namco has continued to release Dragon Ball games and game content alongside the franchise's other 2026 projects, which include newly announced anime such as the Dragon Ball Super: Beerus remake and the planned Galactic Patrol series. Across the rest of its game lineup, Bandai Namco has also outlined further downloadable content for titles such as Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.
